Akron Children's facilities sets visitation restrictions due to flu outbreak

Published: Fri, January 11, 2013 @ 6:37 p.m.

BOARDMAN — Akron Children’s Hospital today implemented visitor restrictions to protect patients at all its facilities, including Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley, Boardman, because of increasing respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and influenza-like illnesses.

The restrictions are visitors should be healthy, free from fever, cough, colds or stomach virus symptoms; visitation by children under 14 is limited to siblings; no more than two visitors, in addition to parents or guardians, should be in a patient room at any one time; only parents or guardians should visit in critical-care areas, such as pediatric and neonatal intensive care, special-care nurseries, the Burn Center, and hematology/oncology.

Parents or guardians may arrange for visitors on a limited basis. Playrooms are only open to patients and their parents or guardians. Siblings must remain in the patient’s room.
