Kokrak ends first round of Sony Open with eagle

Published: Thu, January 10, 2013 @ 7:43 p.m.

HONOLULU — Jason Kokrak saved his best for last in the first round of the Sony Open.

The Warren native and Warren JFK graduate finished an up-and-down round with an eagle on the par-5 No. 18 at Waialae Country Club. The fantastic finish dropped Kokrak to 1-under on the day.

Kokrak started with bogeys on four of his first six holes, but rebounded with birdies on holes 7, 9 and 10 and was 1-over par through 17 holes to set the stage for his eagle.

Kokrak is back at the course where he made his full-time PGA Tour debut by making the cut in last year's Sony Open.

Some players are still on the course. Clubhouse leader Scott Piercy is 6-under.
