Published: Thu, January 10, 2013 @ 4:35 a.m.

A 27-year-old Canfield man accused of ignoring police and driving into the path of a police pursuit is expected in court today.

Dominic J. Leonelli is charged with failure to comply with order of a police officer. On Friday, officers from Mahoning Township, Pa., Boardman and the Ohio State Highway Patrol were trying to stop a suspect fleeing west from Pennsylvania to U.S. Route 224.

Police stopped traffic at Tippecanoe Road and Route 224 with their cruiser lights flashing, and Leonelli is accused of driving around police onto Route 224 into the path of the pursuit, records state.

Luckily he didn't hit someone. But if he would have I am sure the Police would have been sued and blamed somehow.

Technically there is no such law federal state or local level that requires you to pull over or stop for an emergency vehicle so this is Canfield trying to throw around some of its weight. The only law that requires you to stop is for school buses so this will be a waste of tax payer monies as the charge would refer to this person refusing to pull over while trying to be stopped for a traffic related offense such as speeding no license plate tail light or plate light out ect. Police officers and dept feel they have to much power obviously.

I think you better go back and look at your driver training course again. There are laws that make you pull over for emergency vehicles, ambulances etc...
