What: Live music and cafe night with proceeds to benefit Goodness Grows programs.
When: 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday with musician Rob Thorndike playing from 5:30 to 8. The musician, a former Valley resident who graduated from Youngstown State University, teaches choir and music to seventh- through 12th-graders at a charter school in Parma and also performs.
Where: Sounds and Grounds cafe at Glenwood Christian Fellowship, 7872 Glenwood Ave., Boardman.
Details: The menu, all homemade, will include black bean soup and chicken, cannelli bean and chard soup; sandwiches including the Hot Hawkins Hoagie and Chef’s Special; and potato and yam pirogis. There will be hot beverages such as Fair Trade coffees, gourmet teas and cappuccinos and cold drinks such as smoothies, ice coffee, hand-squeezed lemonade and limeade. Food ingredients are sourced locally by Kathryn Hatch of The Zaney Pearl Farm in Leetonia. There also will be a basket raffle, raffles for specialty drinks and organic produce for sale. Cafes are being planned from 5 to 10 p.m. the second Saturday of the month.
