Committee lists events for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

The Martin Luther King Planning Committee has selected the theme “Eyes On The Prize — The Pursuit Of Peace!” for events.

A community worship service is scheduled at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 20 at Union Baptist Church, 528 Lincoln Ave., where the Rev. Michael Harrison will be host pastor.

The Rev. Jimmy Webb of Norfolk, Va., will be the keynote speaker.

A community workshop is planned from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 21 at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave. The Rev. Dr. Nick Mager is host pastor. The Rev. Mr. Webb will address the workshop.

The programs will feature voices of national and local grass-roots leaders who will share effective models and visions promoting peace and nonviolence in the Valley.

The events are free and open to the public.
