Columbiana chamber seeks nominations
For more than 50 years, the Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce has recognized individuals, groups and businesses by awarding those who have made a positive difference in the community, have exemplified excellence in their field, or have contributed to the betterment of the Columbiana area.
Criteria for nominations and nomination forms can be found at the Chamber of Commerce at 328 N. Main St. and at www.columbianachamber.com.
The nomination deadline is Jan. 25.
Pleasant View North becomes Auburn
Pleasant View North, a nursing home, has changed its name to Auburn Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation.
The facility has been renovated to include a new therapy gym and activities center. It now has six private rooms and 38 semiprivate rooms.
Auburn Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation is located at 100 Covington Drive in East Palestine.
Builders, union host open house
The Builders Association of Eastern Ohio and Western Pa. teamed with members of the Iron Workers Youngstown Local 207 to host an educational open house at the iron worker training center.
Joining Poland Seminary High School students were men and women from the Mahoning and Trumbull counties’ career and technical centers.
During the daylong event, iron-worker apprentices and instructors Jim Caruso, Mike Sargent and Ray Moore demonstrated rigging, column splicing, column climbing and welding.
Mock-ups of bridges and metal buildings also were on display, and work surrounding those types of projects were demonstrated and discussed.
Students were able to try welding and column climbing as a hands-on activity.
FirstEnergy invests $14.7M in vehicles
FirstEnergy Corp. is investing more than $14.7 million in new vehicles for employees across its Ohio Edison service territory.
Ohio Edison will obtain 106 new vehicles for their fleet, replacing many vehicles that are more than a decade old.
More than two-thirds of the new vehicles will be bucket and digger derrick trucks to help crews perform their fieldwork efficiently while protecting workers’ safety.
Report notes rise in housing agreements
The Ohio Association of Realtors reported that the number of single-family homes and condominiums put under agreement in November rose for the 19th-consecutive month compared with the results from the previous year.
