Austintown police investigate break-in, assault, gunshots at house

Staff report

Austintown

Police are investigating a report of two men who forced their way into a North Roanoke Avenue home over the weekend and struck the female resident.

A woman who lives at the house told police that about 11:30 p.m. Friday, a man came to her front door asking for her boyfriend. She told him he wasn’t home, and he then asked to use the phone and the woman told him no and closed the door.

The woman then called her boyfriend, telling him that a man was looking for him. She said the man again knocked at her door, but she didn’t answer. While she was on the phone with her boyfriend, the woman heard the back door open and saw the man walk in holding a gun. He was accompanied by a second man.

One of the men hit her on the head, knocking her to the floor while the other walked into her bedroom, asking, “Where is the money?” She told them she didn’t have any money and was knocked to the floor again.

The woman told police she then heard several gunshots as the two men fled her home. The shots were fired by the woman’s boyfriend as he returned home.

Police found no suspects but saw a trail of blood in the snow.

A short time later, St. Elizabeth Health Center notified township police that they had two gunshot victims. Both victims told hospital personnel that they didn’t know each other and that they were shot in Youngstown.

Township police are investigating to determine if the two at the hospital were the two involved in the township incident.
