R&B singer Ocean faces drug charge

BRIDGEPORT, Calif.

Grammy-nominated R&B singer Frank Ocean has lost his driver’s license temporarily and faces a marijuana-possession charge after police say he was pulled over twice on the final days of the year in California’s Eastern Sierra Nevada for driving more than 90 mph in 65 mph zones.

The Mono County Sheriff’s Department said officers first stopped Ocean’s black BMW on Dec. 30 as he was heading northbound on U.S. 395 near Keoughs and cited him for speeding.

Ocean was pulled over again on New Year’s Eve about 4:30 p.m. as he was heading southbound on U.S. 395 at about the same speed.

The second time, sheriff’s spokeswoman Jennifer Hansen said, a strong odor of marijuana wafted out as a deputy approached the vehicle.

Hansen said the deputy found a small bag of marijuana on the 25-year-old Ocean, whose legal name is Christopher Edwin Breaux, and cited him for marijuana possession.

‘Star Wars’ creator George Lucas engaged

LOS ANGELES

“Star Wars” creator George Lucas is engaged.

A spokeswoman for Lucasfilm Ltd. says the 68-year-old director is engaged to 43-year-old investment-firm president Mellody Hobson. No other details were provided.

Hobson serves as chairman of DreamWorks Animation and is a financial contributor to ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

Lucas helped to launch the modern blockbuster age with his “Star Wars” sagas and “Indiana Jones” adventures. The original “Star Wars” still stands as the No. 2 film in terms of tickets sold domestically, behind only “Gone with the Wind.”

Lucas has three children: Amanda, Katie and Jett. He previously was married to film editor Marcia Lucas from 1969 to 1983.

TBS considered changing show name

PASADENA, Calif.

TBS and the makers of “Cougar Town” say they only briefly considered changing the show’s title with its move to cable TV, but didn’t want to throw away years of marketing that gave the comedy starring Courteney Cox an identity.

After three seasons on ABC, “Cougar Town” begins its fourth season Tuesday on TBS.

Creator Bill Lawrence doesn’t like the title because it conveys the image of older women chasing young men. Instead, it’s a comedy about friends in their 40s. Cox’s character now is married.

Bardot threatens exile over elephants

PARIS

Sex symbol-turned-animal-rights activist Brigitte Bardot is threatening to join actor Gerard Depardieu in Russian exile unless France halts the scheduled euthanasia of two sick circus elephants.

The 1960s screen diva says authorities have ignored her “numerous proposals” to save Baby and Nepal, a pair of 42-year-old elephants dying of tuberculosis at a Lyon zoo.

This week, France was shocked to learn Depardieu, an Academy Award-winner and pillar of French cinema, had received Russian citizenship after he was called “pathetic” by France’s prime minister in a bust-up over the country’s proposed 75 percent income tax for the super-rich.
