A warm mission binds this close-knit group

Published: Sat, January 5, 2013 @ 12:00 a.m.

Ruth Nellson of Austintown, left, enjoys a chuckle with friends at a loose-knit group at Fellows Riverside Gardens. The group meets the first and third Fridays of each month, working in the Warm Up America program. The participants have knitted or crocheted more than 100 blankets that have been donated to babies at Akron Children’s Hospital. In top photo, new group member Darlene Sudetic, left, learns the steps from member Barb Fechtel. The knitting group consists of about 17 women, some of whom are pictured in bottom photo. Besides the blankets knitted for the babies at Akron Children’s, group members also make afghans and donate them to Sojourner House, Beatitude House and the YWCA.
