A man who strangled his live-in girlfriend has been sentenced to 10 to 20 years in prison.
Keith Wolfrey, 25, was sentenced Dec. 27 by Lawrence County Common Pleas Court Judge Dominick Motto.
Wolfrey pleaded guilty to criminal homicide, murder in the third degree. He will be given credit for 586 days he’s served in the Lawrence County Jail from May 22, 2011, until his sentencing.
Police found Joie Lordi, 20, on the kitchen floor of her Pershing Street, Ellwood City, Pa., home the morning of May 22, 2011.
Her face was covered with duct tape.
Wolfrey, who was at the apartment with the couple’s 7-month-old baby boy, went willingly with police and told them the couple had argued the night before.
Lordi wanted him to hand over his key to their apartment and leave.
Wolfrey told police the argument turned physical, and he put his hands around her neck. He told an officer that afterward, “it all gets foggy.”
Wolfrey went to bed, he told police, and in the morning found Lordi on the kitchen floor. He called his mother, who told him to call paramedics and police.
After Wolfrey serves his sentence, he will be on 10 years’ probation.
The baby’s maternal grandfather has custody of him.
