Boardman Park hosted a Cookies for Santa event in the Lariccia Family Community Center Dec. 20, an event the park has been hosting since 2004.
Children from around the community came to the event to make cookies for Santa with a special touch.
They could choose their own cutout to make, paint the cookies, and decorate them any way they wanted. Boardman Park employees and volunteers then baked the cookies for the families and boxed them up for families to take home.
“The kids get to roll their own dough and decorate them. They can also make gingerbread men and cupcakes. It’s just a fun night out for families to come and make a mess and not have to worry about cleaning it up,” said Karen McCallum, one of the people in charge of the Cookies for Santa event. “There are so many things to do here. We have green Grinch waffles for families to eat and this event keeps growing every year. Everyone loves it and it’s really great to encourage families to do things together.”
Staff at Boardman Park were aided by volunteers from local PANDA organizations from both Boardman Center Middle School and Boardman High School.
