Mahoning County Democratic Party precinct and executive committees members from Youngstown today overwhelmingly endorsed John A. McNally IV for mayor over Youngstown city Council President Jamael Tito Brown by a 50-16 vote.
Just before that, the members voted 33-33 not to endorse in the race. A two-thirds majority is needed for no endorsement.
McNally said the endorsement victory is a key part of kicking off the campaign. While disappointed, Brown said he would continue campaigning hard for the seat.
Matthew Smith, who is running for mayor and sought the party's endorsement, didn't receive a single vote.
