Calling all card players

It’s time for the monthly card game at Shepherd of the Valley-Poland, 301 W. Western Reserve Road. Card players of all kinds are invited to play on Wednesday from noon to 4 p.m.

This month, there will be a buffet lunch. Cost for lunch is $6. Lunch will be served at noon. For those who just want to play cards, decks will be shuffled starting at 1 p.m. For more information, call 330-726-7110, extension 0.

Audubon Society program set

Audubon Society/Mahoning Valley invites the public to “Plants to Attract Specific Birds,” a program by Eric Barrett from Mahoning County’s Ohio State Extension office. The program will take place on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Mill Creek MetroParks Farm on Route 46 in Canfield. For more information, call 888-846-8851.

Auxiliary to meet Tuesday

The Sulmona Valley Auxiliary will meet on Tuesday at noon at Johnny’s Restaurant, Market Street. Virginia Matijasic is the hostess and the telephone girls will be calling for reservations. Anyone interested in joining as a member may contact Sandy Redeske at 330-755-5192.

Fireman’s spaghetti dinner set March 3

The Poland Fireman’s Association annual spaghetti dinner will be on March 3 from noon to 6 p.m. at Poland United Methodist Church, 1940 Boardman-Poland Road. The cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children 6-12. Children under 5 eat free. The price includes spaghetti and meatballs, salad, bread and dessert. Carry out is available and begins at 11 a.m.

Church hosts supper

Prince of Peace Lutheran, will hold a Shrove Tuesday Pancake and Sausage supper on Tuesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. with social time. On Ash Wednesday, there will be a spoken service at noon and a full service at 7 p.m. Each service will include Imposition of Ashes and Holy Communion. Prince of Peace is located at 2985 Center Road, Poland.

Poland grad makes Dean’s list

Ryan Rovank, a 2009 graduate of Poland High School, has been named to the Dean’s list at Ohio Dominican University for the fall semester. Rovank is attending Ohio Dominican University under a baseball scholarship, where he plays third base.

Wine and beer tasting in Boardman

Team Schein is hosting a wine and beer tasting at Vintage Estates Wine and Beer in Boardman tomorrow from 3-5 p.m. The cost is $20 per person and includes eight tastings. Choose from six wine selections or 12 beers on tap from the Diamond bar, hors d’oeuvres and musical entertainment by Ryan Ross. You must be 21 years of age to purchase a ticket and attend the event. Fibromyalgia support group meeting

On Wednesday, the Mahoning Valley Fibromyalgia Support Group will meet at Bethel Lutheran Church, located at 425 Crestview Drive in Boardman. This meeting will be from 7-8:30 p.m. and members are urged to bring a friend who is interested in an evening of learning, sharing and fun. Library hosts Babies and books

Children ages 6 to 23 months can join the Poland library for developmentally-appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help your child become a successful reader every Wednesday in February at 10 a.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Tales for toddlers

Join the Canfield library for developmentally-appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help your child (ages 2-3) become a successful reader every Thursday in February at 10 or 11 a.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult

Fun for 4s and 5s is Tuesdays

Join the Poland library for developmentally-appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help your child (ages 4-5) become a successful reader every Tuesday in February at 1 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Library hosts Pajama Jam

There will be sleepy-time fun for the family at the Poland library on Monday from 6:30-7 p.m. Put on your PJs, take the whole family for stories and more fun.

Trim the all-seasons tree at library

Decorate an ornament for the Poland library’s all-seasons tree during regular hours at the Poland library throughout the month of February. For children of all ages.

Making Kids Count benefit dinner

On March 15, Making Kids Count will host its first benefit dinner at Avion on the Water in Canfield. Proceeds from the event will go to the various programs Making Kids Count sponsors. This event will include dinner, dessert, a cash bar, chance auction and entertainment. Invitations will be mailed in February. Anyone interested in receiving an invitation for this event or for more information on this event, should send an email with mailing and email addresses to mkc@makingkidscount.org or call the office at 330-758-3434.
