On Feb. 16, 21 members of the Boardman girls indoor track team competed at the WATTS Center on the campus of Youngstown State University — the third indoor meet this season.
The 4x800 relay team took first-place honors with a season-best time of 10:17.6, knocking 30 seconds off its previous best. The relay consisted of sophomores Jordan Grantonic, Heaton O’Hara, and Regan O’Hara and junior Brandi Gatte. The relay currently stands in 14th place in the state standings.
Grantonic came back later in the meet and placed third in the 1600 with a time of 5:29.41 and ran 2:31.28 in the 800, finishing fifth. Grantonic still stands in third place in the state rankings in the 3200.
In the pole vault, senior Sarina Mauerman placed third with a season-best vault of 9-6, which ranks her in the top 25 in the state. Sophomore hurdler Hope Landers took seventh place in the 60-meter high hurdles with a season-best time of 10.30. In the shot put competition, senior Giovanna Silvestri threw a season-best toss of 36-4, placing seventh and now stands 12th in the state rankings. Sophomore teammate Ka’nisha White threw 35-2, placing eighth and is ranked 15th in the state indoor rankings.
The next meet for the girls’ team is March 2 at the “Arnold Classic” on the campus of Ohio State University.
