Snow, ice prompt many calls for help

Published: Wed, February 20, 2013 @ 12:00 a.m.

YOUNGSTOWN

Tuesday night’s snow and ice prompted numerous calls to police to retrieve cars from ditches and respond to minor crashes, but police reported the damage from the weather was less than expected. Youngstown police responded to multiple crashes throughout the city, but did not report any serious injuries. Other departments, including Boardman, Austintown, Canfield and the Mahoning County Sheriff, had none or few calls from road conditions. Ohio State Highway Patrol reported four crashes but most were for cars to be pulled back onto roads. The Himrod Avenue Expressway was shut down because of the ice, and police reported crashes on Interstate 80.
