Rain garden presentation
The Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership will host a free presentation on rain barrels and rain gardens at 6:30 p.m. today in the Western Reserve Room of the Raymond John Wean Foundation, 147 W. Market St., Warren.
Amy Reeher, a watershed coordinator with the Trumbull Soil & Water Conservation District, will provide information on rain gardens and rain barrels, the benefits they provide, the ideal location for installation and the costs associated with their construction and maintenance. SouthernCare Hospice is offering a free health fair and blood drive open to the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the Lariccia Family Community Center in Boardman Park, 375 Boardman-Poland Road, Boardman, in support of American Heart Month.
Vendors will be available to provide free health screenings and information on heart health, nutrition and smoking cessation.
“The purpose of the health fair is to empower people with knowledge to prevent disease and manage their health. February is Heart Month, and heart disease is the No. 1 cause of death for men and women,” said Danielle Procopio of SouthernCare.
The American Red Cross will be collecting blood from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Appointments are recommended and can be scheduled by calling SouthernCare at 330-797-8940.
Mark Gardner, board- certified orthopedic surgeon with Horizon Orthopedics-UPMC, will speak about new developments in knee-replacement surgery today at 6 p.m. in Assembly Rooms A and B at UPMC Horizon’s Greenville campus. The program is free. Refreshments will be served. Dr. Gardner will discuss indications for total knee replacement; medical remedies and physical therapy; and new techniques and products available for those seeking total knee replacements, including the GetAroundKnee.
