Youngstown police continue search for suspect in South Side shooting

Published: Mon, February 18, 2013 @ 4:34 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — A weekend shooting at a bar on the South Side has led to the arrest of one man, but not the man believed to have fired the shots.

Police were called to a bar in the 2900 block of South Avenue shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday. When officers arrived, they found a wounded man leaning against a wall with a gunshot wound to the stomach.

The shooting victim told police the shooting took place “at the bar that sells hotdogs up the street.”

Police went to a nearby bar advertising hotdogs for sale and began looking for the scene of the shooting.

One officer noticed a gun on the floor of a car parked in the bar’s parking lot.

Keilan Beachum, 23, of Youngstown told police the gun belonged to him and he did not want to put it in the trunk of his car for fear that it would be stolen. He told officers he had started the process for a concealed-carry permit but did not finish.

Police charged Beachum with improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle.

Police found no evidence of the shooting in the bar parking lot. The search continues for the person responsible for the shooting.

They'll never find him. People to chickensh@# to turn him in. Until they start talking, they'll be more and more shootings and killings. Man up and tell the cops who did it. Nothing but cowards.

Where is a gun more likely to be stolen? Out of view in a locked trunk or in plain view on the floor of a vehicle. A window is easier to break than a trunk lock.
