UPDATE: Victim, suspects identified in shooting at fringe of YSU campus today

Staff report

Brittany N. Johnson, 23, of Bedford Heights, a student at Youngstown State University, remains in stable condition tonight at St. Elizabeth Health Center today after being hit by gunfire while riding in a car on Pennsylvania Avenue near campus early today.

She and two other women were pulling up to an apartment at the corner of Pennsylvania and Madison avenues, across the street from YSU’s Lyden House residence hall, when they heard gunfire and pulled away to avoid a gunman.

Johnson, a rear-seat passenger, was hit by a shot and driven to the hospital.

Police arrested Sylean Wilson, 19, of Pittsburgh, after he ran to that same apartment building with a Youngstown police officer following him. The officer witnessed some of the gunfire, and a video of the end of the confrontation was posted on You Tube.

Wilson is in the Mahoning County jail, charged with felonious assault, while Rashaad Lewis, 19, also from Pittsburgh, is charged with obstructing officials business, police say, because he held the door open for Wilson and then shut it when the officer got there.

What more can I add...dumb knuckleheads with hot guns shooting up innocent people just to prove they are in charge. Idiots with no brains because they have been fried by drugs, acting like animals. You put them in prison and our prisons continue to decline down the path of human evolution back to before the caveman walked the earth.

Animals, nothing but animals. Such useless DNA's. 2 19 year olds that need to be put in a cage. And the caveman, more in likely, had more brains then these two!

Bond needs to be secured and these two boys should be allowed back on campus to get that all important college degree. Let us not condemn them to a lifetime of inferiority. Rehabilitation trumps debilitation.
