Dog uncovers human skull in Youngstown woods

Published: Sat, February 16, 2013 @ 9:45 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN

Authorities are investigating a human skull found shortly before 1 p.m. Saturday in a wooded area in the 2000 Block of Vaughn Avenue in the northeast section of the city.

A homeowner called police after his dog discovered the skull in the woods off Vaughn.

Youngstown detectives, and the Mahoning County Coroner’s office and crime lab were at the scene for about an hour looking for evidence.

Other bones were found, but it is not known if they are human, police said.

They added that it is likely the skull will yield DNA that could be compared to missing persons.
