Boy, 7, found with loaded gun in school

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — School officials say a 7-year-old was found with a loaded gun in an elementary school in north Philadelphia.

WPVI-TV says the boy was showing the weapon off to other students in the lunchroom during breakfast Monday morning at John F. Reynolds Elementary School.

Officials say the other students notified school police who took the boy to the office, where the gun was recovered and secured.

School officials said the child has been suspended and they are working with police to try to find out how the child obtained the weapon.

Last week, a 7-year-old boy at a west Philadelphia charter school told a teacher that he had found a loaded gun in his backpack.

The boy said he was putting a folder into his backpack at the end of the day when he saw the .38-caliber handgun at about 4 p.m. Thursday at an after-school program at Universal Samuel Daroff Charter School.

Staff members immediately took the backpack and called police, who said they were talking to family members and reviewing surveillance video to find out how gun got into the bag.

I sure would like to see the trace background on this weapon. We never hear about those things, but it sure could provide us with lots of information of how a handgun ends up in a 7 year olds backpack in a city with strict handgun laws.

Your correct Vindy, and you never will hear anything like that because its too much WORK for the authorities. Same thing when juveniles commit crimes and gun crimes, do you hear of parent(and i mean parent) being investigated or charged. NO. Also it would be taken as TARGETING perticular population when the findings come back and we must not do that. Thugstown is a prime example of that. True story: I called YPD of break-in at property I own. Very visible prints on glass on door and elsewhere. They were not happy to even be there, and when asked if prints will be taken I was told quote "Thats only on TV". So crime deterent here is non-existent and frankly its all over No Deterent and the cockroaches run wild. sad
