Boy, 7, found with loaded gun in school
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — School officials say a 7-year-old was found with a loaded gun in an elementary school in north Philadelphia.
WPVI-TV says the boy was showing the weapon off to other students in the lunchroom during breakfast Monday morning at John F. Reynolds Elementary School.
Officials say the other students notified school police who took the boy to the office, where the gun was recovered and secured.
School officials said the child has been suspended and they are working with police to try to find out how the child obtained the weapon.
Last week, a 7-year-old boy at a west Philadelphia charter school told a teacher that he had found a loaded gun in his backpack.
The boy said he was putting a folder into his backpack at the end of the day when he saw the .38-caliber handgun at about 4 p.m. Thursday at an after-school program at Universal Samuel Daroff Charter School.
Staff members immediately took the backpack and called police, who said they were talking to family members and reviewing surveillance video to find out how gun got into the bag.
