Published: Sun, February 10, 2013 @ 12:00 a.m.

The Austintown Fire Department was the first in Mahoning County to get a new multipurpose “first responder” truck 25 years ago. The truck was equipped with the Jaws of Life extrication tool, traditional fire-fighting tools and special equipment to respond to accidents involving hazardous materials. Ray Thompson, above, gets ready to demonstrate one of the new pieces of equipment, a foam injector. Dan Martin, at right, stores absorbent materials used in chemical spills into a compartment on the side of the truck.
