Canfield junior Mallory Allen placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.19) and freshman Theresa Mikolay was third in the 100 breast (1:09.43) as the Cardinals placed sixth in the team standings at Saturday’s Division I Akron north sectional at Ocasek Natatorium.
Those two joined sophomore Sarah Heaven and junior Olivia Williamson on the fourth-place 200 medley relay (1:53.58).
The top two finishers in each event automatically advance to next weekend’s district meet at Cleveland State University.
They will be joined by a number of at-large qualifiers based on times recorded in all the sectionals in the district.
Boardman sophomore Brooke Bailey was fourth in the 100 fly 1:00.75 and joined juniors Jessica Hilk and Jordyn Markovitch and senior Colleen Manning on two top-five relays. Boardman’s 400 free relay was fourth (3:45.51) and the 200 free relay was fifth (1:44.03).
In the Akron south sectional, Warren Harding sophomore Emily Thirion won the 100 fly (59.76) and was fourth in the 100 breast in 1:08.13.
Cardinal Mooney sophomore Taylor Tofil won the 100 back (1:03.14), placed second in the 100 fly (1:01.40) and helped two Cardinal relays place third at the Division II sectional at Ocasek.
In the 200 medley relay, Tofil swam with Annie Boniface, Maddie Leek and Lexie Kleeh.
In the 400 free relay, Tofil and Boniface swam with Beth Zeno and Bailey Reardon.
Boniface also placed third in the 100 back (1:04.18) and fourth in the 100 free (55.92).
The Cardinals placed fourth in the team standings, while Hubbard was sixth and Poland seventh.
Hubbard’s Julia Castner won the 50 free (25.08), placed third in the 100 free (55.07) and helped the Eagles place fourth in the 200 free relay (1:53.78) and fifth in the 400 free relay (4:13.20).
Castner swam with Liz Sisk, Leah McConnell and Danielle Evans in the 400 free relay and Sisk, McConnell and Justine Castner in the 200 free relay.
Poland’s Maddie Evan placed second in the 100 back (1:03.73) and fifth in the 100 free (57.12). Evan joined Jaci Mullally, Kaelyn Weitzman and Marissa Melillo on the fourth-place 400 free relay.
Western Reserve’s Jamie Stahl placed third in the 100 fly.
