YSU swimmers fall
Three Youngstown State swimmers won individual events on Friday as the Penguins lost to Ohio at the OU Aquatic Center. The Bobcats defeated the Penguins, 164-126.
Laura Paz, Samantha Roberts and Ashley Dow all earned first-place finishes.
Roberts won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.02) and the 200 breast (2:25.09).
Paz won the 200-yard butterfly (2:11.96) and was second in the 100 fly (1:00.83). She also placed fourth in the 200 IM.
Casey Cullen was third in the 100 butterfly (1:04.33).
Dow placed first in the 200 IM, her first career victory in the event, (2:12.36). She finished second in the 100-yard backstroke (57.81) and the 200 back (2:04.56).
Bill O’Brien to speak at local Penn State dinner
Penn State football coach and Bear Bryant Coach of the Year Bill O’Brien will be this year’s guest speaker at the Penn State Shenango Friends of Penn State dinner on February 13.
Doors open at 5:45 p.m. and dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Penn State Shenango Auditorium located in Sharon, Pa.
The event is sponsored by the Penn State Shenango Alumni Society.
Proceeds will go to Penn State Shenango student scholarships and Special Olympics of Pennsylvania.

Arnold to address Warren Sports Hall
The Warren Sports Hall of Fame will meet at DeLucia’s Banquet Center on Monday.
The social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6.

Canfield Cardinal softball clinic set
The Canfield Cardinals softball team will have a skills & drills tune up clinic on March 16 at the high school gymnasium.
The program will provide each player with the tools necessary to take her game to the next level in a challenging and fun-filled atmosphere.
Players age 7-10 will attend 10 a.m. until noon and players age 11-14 will go from 1 p.m. until 3.
The registration deadline is March 8.

Umpires to meet
The Youngstown Metro Umpire Association will hold a OHSAA baseball/softball meeting on Sunday at 1:15 p.m. at St. Nicholas Activity Center.
Umpires must attend at least four meetings to meet state requirements.

Ohio State assistant to coach special teams
Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer announced that cornerbacks coach Kerry Coombs will also be in charge of the team’s special teams.
Coombs is in his 31st year of coaching, including his seventh on the collegiate level — and is just starting his second season with the Buckeyes. He spent five years at the University of Cincinnati and was special teams coordinator for three seasons (2009-11).
Coombs helped Ohio State to a 12-0 record this year. A lifelong Ohioan, he grew up in suburban Cincinnati.
US women, with new coach, await Scotland
The opponent will be no stranger. The accent will have a familiar ring.
Tom Sermanni makes his debut as coach of the U.S. women’s soccer team today when the Americans play Scotland in an exhibition game at the home of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Sermanni was born in Scotland and spent the last eight years as Australia’s coach, leading the Matildas to the quarterfinals of the last two Women’s World Cups. He was hired by the U.S. Soccer Federation in October.
