Frack Free activists near goal in petition drive to ban fracking in Youngstown
Staff report
YOUNGSTOWN
Frack Free Mahoning Valley organizers say they are close to gathering enough signatures to land a referendum question on the May 7 primary ballot asking voters to ban natural gas drilling in the city.
As theWednesday deadline nears, local business leaders and the oil and gas industry are paying close attention, and a fight to stave off a charter amendment could be shaping up, opening a telling window into how two sides of the fracking debate are interacting in the early stages of the Utica-Point Pleasant shale play.
In October, the city council approved legislation to allow the city to solicit offers from companies to lease city owned land for gas and oil drilling. At the time, activists said they would conduct a petition drive aimed at curbing that activity.

Leave it to the braindrained City of Youngstown protestors to protest a God send to their wasteland of a City.
Not to worry, the industry and the rural and suburban members of the community are not even going to allow these socialist to move. Not to mention the State has full jurisdiction on energy matters, it is a state issue.
Also, the hypocrites! V&M Star is pumping millions into Youngstown and creating jobs. YSU needs to retire Biersdorfer and her hippie husband too. They both are an embarrasment to the University.
I'm going to start an organization called
"Free of Frac Freers"
We're going to have a lot of fun.
You got your supranatural forces wrong, uticashale cheerleader. God doesn't destroy her creation with earthquakes, polluted groundwater, depleted fresh water, carcinogenic chemicals, etc ad nauseum. That is the dirty work of Mephisto and his prostituted agents, like you, whose speciality it is to shut out the truth and shut up truth-bearers, like the Biersdorfers, among the only YSU profs with a spine as well as a heart and brain.
I wounder if Hagen's heros would even have the support if he was allowed to run again in 2014. Watch out all you little lambs. He will leave you once the big oil companies that have a nickle in this, offer him a good job. Once he is working for the big oil companies he will know your agenda inside out and what it will take to quell the resistance.
They are depleted and contaminating all our resources here. Probably make billions in profits shipping the natural gas overseas. Then when the land and water is polluted enough they will pay around 1/2 or 1 percent of their profits in fines and move on. While we are left with billions in cleanup costs. they are going to laugh all the way to the bank.
On the bright side real estate will be cheap.
Cambridge my brotha, wassup? I see you now have this colorful picture next to your name, how much energy juice does that suck up? Yeah baby, I told you to keep posting man so that we can keep drilling. Funny how you and the anti energy losers are getting it now. We exist because you need us, want us, you are the reason we are here in the matrix.
So how much heat and natural gas are you sucking up this winter? Have you driven that oil combustion engine car of yours alot this month? Oh! I was looking up CNG vehicles, you know to be cleaner and cheaper on the environment, I notice you energy users in Calif have a lot of these CNG cars, why don't you help the environment and send us primitive oil users some.
The only "free" zone we need is a zone free of left-wing hypocrites. These are people doing very well by the system and I don't notice many of them on foot, riding bicyles, living in tents, or, for that matter, living the Vegan Lifestyle most of them like to prattle about.
All that, the amenities of modern life, are dependant on the Industrial Society, they incessantly disparage (unfairly, because where they can't find evidence to support their case- as in the case of hydraulic fracturing: a technique used safely for 60 years- they make it up).
If they want to stop being hypocrites- then give it up- go out into the woods, live in a tent, eat Tofu and Beansprouts- and leave the rest of us alone.

re: "They are depleting and contaminating, etc"
Your post reads just like a sermon from an old-fashioned "Bible Thumper" inveighing against the Devil. Full of Sound and Fury- but logic and supporting evidence- well, who needs that, everybody knows the Devil is bad, right?
I've known for a long time that the left-wing-especially the Environmental Movement- represented a kind of secular religion immune to argument. Their mind is made up and, by jingo, that's all there is to it.
Look at the study done by the EPA fracking contaminates ground water they just one say how often 1 in 1000000 or 1 in 10.
