American Legion Post 15, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 15 and the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 15 of Poland will conduct the Four Chaplains’ 70th Anniversary Memorial Ceremony today at the Post 15 Headquarters, 35 Courtland St.
Guest speaker is Air Force Retired Major and Chaplain Daniel Rohan of Liberty. The event will be supported by the Youngstown State Army ROTC, other veterans’ organizations and local community leaders.
The ceremony will be at the 7-foot high granite monument erected and dedicated in 1986 to the four Army chaplains who gave their lives to save other military personnel during the sinking of the Army Transport Ship Dorchester during World War II on Feb. 3, 1943.
Area naval personnel assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 11 (NMCB 11) recently were awarded the Naval Construction Force Battle “E” Award, which recognizes outstanding operational performance of its Naval Mobile Construction Battalions while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. They are:
Constructionman Anna L. Parcher, daughter of Deborah A. Foltz of Jamestown, Pa., and Mark E. Parcher, of North Lawrence. Parcher is a 2010 graduate of Jamestown Area High School of Jamestown.
Petty Officer 2nd Class William M. Ferenczy, son of Linda L. and William J. Ferenczy of North Jackson. Ferenczy is a 2005 graduate of Northshore High School, Slidell, La.
