Gardening grants available for Mahoning River towns

YOUNGSTOWN

Several training workshops will be this month for representatives of groups seeking funds from a U.S. Department of Agriculture grant to establish new vegetable, recreational or wildlife gardens for educational purposes in communities along the Mahoning River.

Workshops will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the East Branch Public Library, 430 Early Road; 2 p.m. Feb. 9 at Warren’s main public library, 444 Mahoning Ave., N.W., and 6 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Newport Library, 3730 Market St.

For information on the Mahoning River Corridor People’s Garden Program, call Liberty Merrill, program coordinator at the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp., 330-480-0423.

The application deadline is March 15.
