New casino flights begin
Frontier Airlines launched service Friday to Atlantic City from the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport.
Frontier Airlines launched service Friday to Atlantic City, N.J., from the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport.
Frontier will provide low-frequency casino-junket service to gambling destinations such as Atlantic City; Gulfport-Biloxi, Miss.; Tunica, Miss.; and New Orleans.
Airport officials hope flights to Las Vegas will be added later.
The airline uses a 90-seat Embraer 190 regional jet aircraft, said Dan Dickten, director of aviation at the airport.
The airport also offers flights through Allegiant Air to destinations in Florida and Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Dickten announced in November that Xtra Airways, which flew casino junkets from the Vienna airport to Atlantic City a couple of times per month, was being replaced by Frontier Airlines.
Dickten says he believes Allegiant is considering flights from Vienna to Las Vegas, but a decision may be determined by how successful a similar service from Plattsburgh, N.Y., to Las Vegas turns out to be.
The parent company of Frontier Airlines is Republic Airlines, which is based in Indianapolis.
