Wine and beer tasting in Boardman

Team Schein is hosting a wine and beer tasting at Vintage Estates Wine and Beer in Boardman Feb. 24 from 3-5 p.m. The cost is $20 per person and includes eight tastings. Choose from six wine selections or 12 beers on tap from the Diamond bar, hors d’oeuvres and musical entertainment by Ryan Ross. You must be 21 years of age to purchase a ticket and attend the event. To purchase tickets, contact Tina Prestas at 330-559-6918 or tprestas@gmail.com. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society Boardman Relay for Life on behalf of Team Schein.

AWBA meeting set for Feb. 12

Leah Brooks, executive director of the YWCA in Youngstown, will be a guest speaker for the meeting of the Mill Creek Chapter of American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) Feb. 12. Members will gather at A La Cart in Canfield at 6:30 p.m. for a buffet of lemon chicken, stuffed shells, baked whitefish, sandtrap potatoes, peas and carrots, chef salad, rolls and butter, beverages and desserts for $18.50. Fibromyalgia support group meeting

On Feb. 20, the Mahoning Valley Fibromyalgia Support Group will meet at Bethel Lutheran Church, located at 425 Crestview Drive in Boardman. This meeting will be from 7-8:30 p.m. and members are urged to bring a friend who is interested in an evening of learning, sharing and fun. Children of all ages can stop in the Canfield library with a friend or find a friend to play a couple of games of Heart Tic Tac Toe throughout February during regular library hours.

Tales to tails at library

Sign up to read to a registered therapy dog, which helps develop reading skills, promotes confidence, and encourages a love of reading at the Canfield library Feb. 18 at 6:30 p.m.

Readers of all levels and abilities are welcome. Bring a book of your choice. Dogs are provided by K-9 for Compassion, registered Delta society therapy dogs.

Lego my library Feb. 12

Children, age 6 and up, can create Lego designs at the Canfield library Feb. 12 from 6-8 p.m. Legos will be provided.

My funny valentines provide laughter

In the mood for some Valentine’s laughs? Laugh at other funny valentines, or make your own at the Canfield library during regular hours in February. The library will post them on their teen board. A random participant will win a prize. This event is for teens in grades 7-12.

Bring your Kindle to the library and the librarians will show you how to download eBooks from the Library’s Digital Catalog on their website Feb. 26 at 6:30 p.m. Space is limited. Call 330-744-8636 and ask for specific library to register. For adults.

Downloading for Apple devices at library

Bring your iPad, IPod Touch or iPhone to the Canfield library at 6:30 on Feb. 11 and they will show you how to download digital books from the library’s Digital Catalog on the library website. Space is limited. Call 330-744-8636 and ask for the Canfield Library to register.

Nook for novices and pros

If you are new to Nook or new to borrowing eBooks from the library for your well-used Nook, bring your device to the Canfield library at 6:30 Feb. 5 and they will show you how to find and download eBooks from the library’s Digital Catalog on the website. Don’t forget your Adobe ID and email information. Space is limited. Call 330-744-8636 and ask for the Canfield library to register.

Get your blood pressure checked at library

The Salem Area Visiting Nurse Association will be offering a free blood pressure check at the Canfield library Feb. 19 from 1-3 p.m.

Coupon Swap could save you money

If you have coupons you don’t need or need coupons you don’t have, drop between 9 a.m. and noon at the Canfield library Feb. 8 and 9 to stretch your shopping dollars by swapping coupons or learning new tips from other coupon-clippers.

Spend President’s Day at the library

All libraries in the PLYMC system will be open on Feb. 18 (President’s Day).

CHS eighth-grade orientation is Feb. 21

Canfield High School’s eighth-grade information and orientation session will be Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. in the Canfield High School auditorium.

The evening will include tours, demonstrations, question-and-answer sessions, information on the registration process, assistance with course selection and discussions addressing National Honors Society, class rank and graduation requirements.

Local church to serve chicken dinner

Western Reserve United Methodist Church, located at 4580 Canfield Road in Canfield, will have a drive-through chicken dinner from 4 p.m. until they sold out Feb. 7.

The cost is $7 per meal and includes stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and a brownie.

Making Kids Count benefit dinner

On March 15, Making Kids Count will host its first benefit dinner at Avion on the Water in Canfield. Proceeds from the event will go to the various programs Making Kids Count sponsors.

This event will include dinner, dessert, a cash bar, chance auction and entertainment. Invitations will be mailed in February.

Father-daughter princess dance at Boardman Park

Boardman Park will host its 10th annual Father-Daughter princess dance at the Lariccia Family Community Center. The dance will be on three nights this year: Feb. 15 and 16 from 6-9 p.m., and Feb. 17 from 5-8 p.m.

This semi-formal dance will include dinner, dancing to DJ music and more. A professional photo for a keepsake of this event will also be included. Tickets are now on sale. They can be purchased at the park office, Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Get free pancakes on Feb. 5

IHOP is giving away free pancakes on Feb. 5 to celebrate National Pancake Day. The fundraiser aims to raise $3 million to kick off Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals’ 30th anniversary. Visit any IHOP location to participate.
