Prevent salt injury to plants

Lots of salt has been applied to roads, driveways and sidewalks in the Mahoning Valley — much more than the past couple of Decembers. Salt (sodium chloride) can do the most damage to landscape plants, but other de-icing materials can too. So use all items prudently around your sidewalks. Try mixing kitty litter or sand with de-icing materials to reduce damage.
