The school district has advanced to another level in an application for a $1.3 million grant that would benefit preschoolers through second-graders.

Liberty is in a consortium with 18 other Trumbull County schools for the Straight A Grant.

Pam McCurdy, district curriculum director, said part of the money would be used to connect with preschools in the district so their students are ready for Liberty’s kindergarten program.

“We want people on the same page,” she said. The grant would pay for webinars and transition fairs, she explained.

The district would use another part of the grant for reading intervention, teacher-training and materials for kindergarten through second grade, McCurdy said.

“I feel very hopeful,” she said. “It was a strong proposal. We made the second round.”

McCurdy said she hopes the district will know the results this month.
