Bonilla will speak at YSU commencement

Rose Bonilla, a communications and journalism major, will be the student speaker at Youngstown State University’s fall commencement at 2 p.m. Sunday in Beeghly Center.

Bonilla, who graduated from Poland Seminary High School in 2009, also has a double minor in telecommunications and psychology.

She studied abroad in Istanbul, Turkey, for a semester in 2011, and has also interned at The Talent Group in Cleveland and at 21 WFMJ-TV.

She has earned a spot on the dean’s list each semester and has also received multiple awards, including the Dr. Kathleen Kougl Scholarship in Communication Studies (2013), the Cleveland Association of Broadcasters Scholarship (2012) and the 2008-09 Resch Student Leadership Award.

Bonilla has been involved in Lambda Pi Eta, the YSU Latino Organization, “Homework Express,” co-ed soccer, The News Outlet and The Jambar.

After graduating, Bonilla plans to complete the hiring and training process with American Airlines to be a flight attendant before pursuing her goal of becoming a broadcast news reporter.

She enjoys tutoring others in Spanish and math, singing, dancing, traveling and running.
