Submit information for Christmas listing

The Vindicator will publish a listing of area services that are open to the public in observance of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

The list will run on the Religion page Dec. 21. The deadline to submit information is 5 p.m. Dec. 18.

Information should include the denomination and name of the church, address, city or suburb and time of Christmas Eve or Christmas Day services.

The information should be accompanied by a name and a phone number for verification or any questions.

Musical drama


“Home for Christmas,” a dramatic musical celebration, will be presented at 6 p.m. next Saturday and at 9 and 11 a.m. Dec. 15 at New Life Baptist Church, 3414 state Route 208.

Advent services


Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 162 S. Raccoon Road, will conduct an Advent series Wednesday and Dec. 18.

A potluck dinner will be at 5:30 p.m., and the service is at 6:30.

Christmas vespers


Musicians from children to adults will present “Christmas Vespers, a Celebration of Carols” at 6:15 p.m. Sunday at Poland Presbyterian Church, 2 Poland Manor.

The Chancel Choir, Village Handbell Ringers and the Children’s Choir will participate in the candlelight service. Narration and Bible passages will be read by Poland Presbyterian’s youths in grades seven through 12.

Errol Kehrberg, Poland Presbyterian director of music, will conduct the combined choirs. Emily Slaven is director of the children’s choir.

Keyboard accompaniment will be provided by Larry Harris, professor at Youngstown State University’s Dana School of Music.

Prayer team


Youngstown City and Regional Prayer Team will have a prayer assembly at 10 a.m. today at Fifth Avenue Community Church, 1361 Fifth Ave.

Longest night service


First United Methodist, Grace United Methodist and Tod Avenue United Methodist churches will combine to present a special service of light in the midst of darkness.

The Longest Night, a service of remembering and healing, will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 18 at Grace UMC, 1725 Drexel NW.

Circle of Friends


The Circle of Friends Gospel Quartet from Painesville, Ohio, will perform at 6 p.m. Sunday at Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road (Route 62).

The event is free.

Christmas concert


Nancy Honeytree, Gospel singer, will be in a Christmas concert at 6 p.m. Dec. 15 at Northside Baptist Church, 500 Goldie Road.

The singer/songwriter is in the field of contemporary Christian music.

Her CDs will be available. An offering will be taken.

Praise service


Southington United Methodist Church, state Route 305, in the town center, will have a praise and worship service at 7 p.m. today.

Casual dress is permitted, and refreshments will follow.

Live nativity set


New Hope United Methodist Church, 21 Fairview Ave., will present a live nativity from 7 to 8 p.m. Dec. 15.

Refreshments will be served in fellowship hall.

Christmas vespers at Pleasant Grove


The music department of Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, 3919 Southern Blvd., will present the 66th annual candlelight music vespers service at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 15.

Choirs, hand-bell ringers and instrumentalists will perform. Wassail will be served at 3:30 p.m. with a musical prelude at 4:15. Margie Burnett is music director. Organist Dr. Kathleen Montgomery and pianist Alison Morris will perform.

Guadalupana Mass


St. Brendan Church, 2800 Oakwood Ave., will celebrate a Mass honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe, Queen of Mexico and Empress of the Americas, on Thursday, the feast day.

There will be an opening procession with roses at 5:30 p.m., and the Guadalupana Mass will begin at 6. Bishop George V. Murry will preside, and concelebrants will be the Revs. Shawn Conoboy, Bill Loveless and Joseph Rudjak.

A social will follow from 7 to 9 p.m. in Maxwell Hall with music by Musica Centenario.

Advent reconciliation service


Blessed Sacrament Parish, 3020 Reeves Road NE, will conduct an Advent reconciliation service at 3 p.m. Dec. 15.

The penance service will include Liturgy of the Word, examination of conscience, individual confession and absolution, song of praise and a final blessing.

The Rev. Tom Eisweirth and several area priests will be available to hear confessions.

Christmas concert at Second Chance


Second Chance Ministry, 3415 Canfield Road, will present a benefit Christmas concert at 6 p.m. next Saturday featuring Chuck and Betty Inskeep, Matt and Melissa Minnick, Anne Martineau and Jenah Shank.

Refreshments will be provided.

Admission is free, but an offering will be collected to benefit the ministry.

Proceeds will be used to help the ministry offset the cost of providing regular hot meals and other services to the community.

There are worship services at 6 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sundays.

The ministry also serves free hot meals to area residents several times a month.

A penance service will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Angela Merici Church, 400 Lincoln Park Drive.

Feast day Mass


A feast day Mass of the patron of Immaculate Conception Church, 103 11th St., will be at 8:30 a.m. Monday.
