Scrappers blanked in doubleheader sweep

JAMESTOWN, N.Y.

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers produced no runs in two games on Tuesday night against the Jamestown Jammers.

In the opener, the Jammers pounded the Scrappers, 8-0. In round two, Danny Collins scored the only run on a wild pitch to give Jamestown (41-25) a 1-0 victory and sweep. Mahoning Valley dropped to 25-41.

Luis Gomez (0-2) took the loss in the first game, allowing seven runs on 10 hits in four innings. He walked two and struck out four. Six of the runs were earned.

Reliever Ben Heller gave up one run in the two innings he pitched.

Jamestown erupted for three runs in the third inning and four in the fourth. Edwin Espinal hit a RBI double and Wyatt Mathisen hit a two-run single.

In the fourth inning, Elvis Escobar singled to score Danny Collins for a 4-0 lead. Espinal added a two-run single.

Reliever Justin Topa (5-2) earned the victory after taking over for Isaac Sanchez in the fourth inning. Oderman Rocha pitched the final two innings as the trio combined for a five-hit shutout.

Sicnarf Loopstok had two hits for the Scrappers while Paul Hendrix, Robel Garcia and Brian Ruiz had the others.

In the second game, Nellie Rodriguez had two of the Scrappers’ three hits. Matt Whitehouse (4-1) took the loss, allowing one hit and one run in his three innings.
