The Youngstown Torch Club received the President’s Recognition Award for the Outstanding Club in Region 5 by the International Association of Torch Clubs during its annual convention June 27 through 30 in Columbia, S.C.
The award is conferred to the club whose membership is growing, whose members are published in the Torch Magazine and whose members support and promote the principles of Torch in programs and related activities. The club also received the award in 2005.
During the past season the club provided a $1,000 scholarship for undergraduate and graduate students at Youngstown State University. The club also hosted the 2010 IATC convention at the Holiday Inn in Boardman.
Torch, a nonservice club, was chartered July 10, 1924, in Minneapolis, Minn., to encourage the free exchange of ideas among members of various professions. The Youngstown Torch Club was organized Jan. 5, 1928. There are 65 clubs in the United States and Canada with more than 2,300 members.
The 2014 IATC convention will take place at St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada; the 2015 convention will take place in Lincoln, Neb.; and the 2016 convention will take place in Columbus.
