Traffic flow Monday to be complicated by Niles detour, start of school
Traffic flow for the first day of classes today for the new schools in the Niles school district will be complicated by a detour on Robbins Avenue, school officials said.
They ask motorists to avoid the area of Federal Street near the high school because of congestion expected on Federal. They ask motorists to use Wilson, Helen, Madison and Franklin avenues to access the high school and intermediate school.
They also urge families to be patient, extra cautious and leave early.
At Niles Primary School (formery Lincoln), buses will begin to arrive at 8:30 a.m., using Frederick Street. Parents will enter the property on Bowman Street. Dismissal will take place at 3 p.m.
At Niles Intermediate School (formerly Bonham), parents and buses will begin to arrive at 8:20 a.m. with buses using Margaret Street. Parents who drop off students will use Margaret Street or St. John and follow the student pickup/drop-off signs. Pickup will take place at 2:40 p.m.
At Niles McKinley High School, buses will enter off George Rowlands Drive. Students who drive should access the student parking lot by using Dragon Drive or George Rowlands Drive. Parents who drop off and pick up must use Dragon Drive at the student pickup/drop-off sign.
