Police detail makes marijuana arrests
Police arrested two people late Thursday while working a special detail to catch two suspects in a string of armed robberies over the past week.
About 10 p.m. in the 400 block of Lira Avenue, Irvin Jamar Brandon, 19, was stopped for walking in the street in the 400 block of Lora Avenue and police found 16 bags of marijuana on him. He was arrested on drug charges and a warrant and taken to the Mahoning County jail.
About 11:20 p.m., Kevin Franklin, 50, was arrested on charges of obstructing justice, resisting arrest and possession of marijuana. He was riding a bicycle that did not have the required lights or reflectors on Fairgreen Avenue and when officers stopped to talk to him, he dropped the bike and took off running, reports said. When he was caught he struggled and had to be stunned before he allowed himself to be handcuffed. He was also taken to the county jail.
Both are expected to be arraigned this afternoon in municipal court.
