Greatest leaders as Day 1 hits halfway point

— Golfers from across Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania descended on Mill Creek Golf Course for the biggest day of Golf in the region. The Vindicator's Greatest Golfer of the Valley, presented by Farmer's National Bank, saw players stroll from tees to greens from the early morning hours and pushing twilight.

The fourth annual event, by far the largest event in the area, featured 310 competitors.

Glen Milton surged to the top of the leaderboard in the Men's Open Division with an even-par 70.

Four others are close behind with matching 72s.

Jonah Karzmer, Josh Zarlenga, Nate Mullen and former YSU and NFL kicker Jeff Wilkins comprise a talented crowd right behind Milton.

In the Women's Open flight, it was a familiar name in the lead. Toni Notaro fired a first-round 74 to take a seven-shot lead over Joan Ash and Lori Bowden.

Abby Cook, tired of seeing her father's Greatest trophy sitting atop the family room mantle, leads the Women's 9+ handicap flight by two shots over Sally Taylor and Jill Harmon after an opening 79.
