A Youngstown man was charged with felonious assault after reportedly striking another man in the head with a beer mug early Saturday.

Alejandro Cruz, 27, is accused of hitting the man in an altercation at Brickhouse Tavern at 958 E. Midlothian Boulevard at 2:05 a.m. Saturday, according to a Youngstown Police Department report.

When police arrived the victim had a severe cut on his head. Cruz was asked if he had struck the victim in the head with a beer mug and responded, “No, but if I did, he deserved it,” according to the report.

Cruz was taken by the scene and while on the way to the Mahoning County jail, Cruz reportedly started yelling “You’re going to die. You’re all going to die,” according to the report. Once at the jail an “extremely intoxicated” Cruz continued to threaten jailers while being booked.
