Car strikes, kills woman on US 422
A Garrettsville woman was killed while walking across U.S. Route 422 at 11:26 p.m. Wednesday.
Christine R. Pettry, 42, was walking northbound on Route 422 near Leiby Osborne Road with two young relatives and a family friend when she attempted to cross the westbound lanes of the highway and was struck and killed.
Amanda L. Mattson, 27, of Burton, was driving a 2001 Toyota Camry that struck Pettry, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Southington Post.
Shortly after the first collision, Pettry was struck by another westbound vehicle, but a preliminary investigation indicates Pettry was dead before being struck again.
The highway patrol says it does not suspect drugs or alcohol to have been a factor regarding either motorist, but toxicology results are pending for Pettry.
