Ohio flooded with applications for vouchers for private schools

Associated Press

The Ohio Department of Education says it has received 1,700 applications for an expansion of a program meant to help students from underperforming public schools attend private schools.

The Educational Choice Scholarship Program offers vouchers for private schools to students from consistently underperforming public schools. Legislation for the newest state budget expanded the EdChoice Scholarship program to about 2,000 more kindergarten students.

The scholarships are worth up to $4,250 each.

The department expects to start notifying recipients this month after evaluating which applicants meet the program criteria.

To be eligible, students must be first-time kindergarteners who don’t qualify for the traditional EdChoice or Cleveland Scholarship programs. They also must come from families earning no more than 200 percent of the federal poverty level, or about $46,100 for a family of four.

Public schools are a failure? I guess they aren't putting out doctors and lawyers anymore..only these voucher charter schools. Get a clue. The only thing these charter schools are successful at is STEALING public money from public schools and funneling it to charters. And oh, what a coincidence, one of the largest contributors to the Ohio Republican Party is White Hat Management. Guess what they "manage"? Yep charter schools to the tune of $67 tax million dollars. Wake up Ohio before its too late and White Hat is running every Ohio school because that's the master plan from these thieves.

Go Pens hit the nail on the head. This has EVERYTHING with funneling money into the hands of your contributors and chronies. White Hat's schools mostly rate a D or F and have been sued my many of their schools for pocketing 95% of the schools tax funding. What happens to the remaining kids who don't leave their public schools? Or what if they all leave? You will have newer empty buildings being used for what? http://mediamatters.org/blog/2013/02/...

Media Matters is a liberal organization.
The public schools have problems that have been discussed in the Vindy for a long time. And you know that the Vindy is pro Democrat party, yet they do their job and expose the sad results.

Quit making public education a political matter only. Certainly improvement is necessary in the public school systems.
Recently, the figure of about $10,000 per student was given as the cost of educating them.

By the way, blame the republicans? The liberals control public education from kindergarten through college. The republicans are trying to clean up the mess.
