No charges against mother of 2-year-old drowning victim

Staff report

No charges will be filed against the mother of a 2-year-old girl who drowned in her grandparents’ swimming pool July 6 on Emerson Avenue.

Capt. Mike Naples of the Weathersfield Police Department said the department submitted its investigation to the Trumbull County Prosecutor’s office, and prosecutors decided no criminal charges were warranted.

The county coroner’s office ruled the drowning accidental.

Police said Marina N. Baugher died in St. Joseph Health Center after her mother, Maria A. Reynolds, found her unresponsive in the pool at Marina’s grandparents’ house at 12:52 p.m. that day.

Marina and Reynolds, of Morningside Drive in Hubbard, had gone there to pick up something, and no one else was home at the time, police said. When Reynolds noticed the girl gone, she went looking and found her in the water without a pulse.
