University of Akron prez to step down in 2014

Published: Wed, August 7, 2013 @ 7:05 p.m.

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — The president of the University of Akron plans to leave that role next summer after 15 years at the helm and become a full-time faculty member at the school.

It’s a long-rumored move by President Luis Proenza, who told university trustees about his transition plan today at their regular meeting. He plans to step down June 30, 2014.

Proenza has led Akron since 1998. The university says he is wrapping up the longest continuous presidency among Ohio’s public universities.

The university says Proenza will be paid $500,000 annually starting in January. He is expected to teach in various disciplines upon ending his presidency. He will return the car and vacate the house he has been provided.

The university has 28,000 students.

And the line forms to the Left. With over double the YSU enrollment, this ought to interest a lot of people.
