Staff report

The Psi Omicron Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. will sponsor the Jamail E. Johnson Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament on Saturday at Pines Lakes Golf Club, 6233 W. Liberty St.

Check-in time is 11:30 a.m., and the first tee time will be at noon for the two-man scramble.

There will be cash prizes for first, second and third places and prizes for hole-in-one, closest to the pin and longest drive.

Johnson joined the fraternity March 21, 2009, and was one of six young men who reactivated the chapter at Youngstown State University after more than a 40-year absence.

Johnson died Feb. 6, 2011, while trying to protect his friends and fellow students. He left a legacy of kindness and courage. He was posthumously awarded a degree in business administration in 2011.

The proceeds will be used for scholarships for students who exhibit the principles that Johnson exhibited.

Hole sponsorships are being sought for $100 per hole. For information call Dan Smith at 330-559-4409.
