Victim, family appear at Cleveland parade

Associated Press

CLEVELAND

One of three women held captive in a Cleveland home for a decade participated in the city’s Puerto Rican parade after her abductor was sentenced last week.

Multiple media outlets in Cleveland report that Gina DeJesus smiled and waved the Puerto Rican flag along the route of Sunday’s parade, which is part of the city’s annual Latino Fest.

Organizers dedicated the festival to those missing.

DeJesus’ father told the crowd his daughter and the two other women were “doing beautiful.”

Felix DeJesus also encouraged people to be alert for other missing children who may need help.

Ariel Castro pleaded guilty to kidnapping, rape and other crimes last week.

He was moved Friday to an Ohio prison to begin serving his sentence of life without parole, plus 1,000 years.
