Rust Belt youth theater to present original musical

Staff report

The Rust Belt Theater Company Studio for Young Actors will present its new original musical, “Skin Deep: A Fairy Tale Gone Horribly Wrong,” at 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Calvin Center, 755 Mahoning Ave., just outside of downtown.

Based on an ancient Chinese folk tale, “Skin Deep” is a one-act musical comedy that pokes fun at recurring themes in popular fairy tales. It features original songs and dialog written entirely by RBTC young actors studio members, under the supervision of artists Robert Dennick Joki and Marisa Zamary.

“Skin Deep” is the fourth original musical produced by the studio, now in its third year, which provides workshops, free of charge, to local students.

The cast includes Grace Offerdahl, Hunter Thomas, Gavin Sams, Jala Beasley-Williamsy, Daja Beasley- Williams, Murphy Sharp, Nick Lyras, Hudson Hartley and Chloe Housteau.

Each performance will include a complimentary root beer float reception.

Admission is $10 (free for children age 12 and under). For reservations, call or text 330-507-2358. The box office accepts all major credit cards, and the building is wheelchair accessible.

Rust Belt Theater is dedicated to producing challenging, experimental, locally written theater.
