Ohio State Fair breaks 12-day attendance record

Published: Mon, August 5, 2013 @ 7:30 p.m.

COLUMBUS (AP) — The Ohio State Fair has set a new attendance record after more than 900,000 people visited the fair this year.

Authorities say the 2013 fair turnout is an increase of more than 6 percent compared to the previous record set in 2004 when slightly more than 850,000 people strolled by the fair during the first year that the event lasted 12 days instead of 17.

Authorities today said this year’s event also set records in youth participation in livestock and non-livestock products. Individual sale records were broken for youth-raised chickens, lambs, pigs, cows, goats, fowl, and Swiss cheese.

Compared to last year, visitors’ spending on food and beverages increased 10 percent, while spending on midway rides went up 17 percent according to figures released by the state.
