Texan gets another wrong water bill topping $66K
A Dallas man says he’s shocked to have been swamped with a nearly $67,000 erroneous water bill a few months after a similar computer error.
Tom Hoffman says he’s looking forward to getting a new bill after the latest mistake that Dallas officials blame on a bad water meter.
WFAA-TV reported last Monday that Hoffman canceled his auto-payment system earlier this year after getting a water bill for more than $66,000. Hoffman’s financial accounts were frozen before the error was fixed.
Now it’s happened again.
City of Dallas spokesman Frank Librio says the stuck meter has been replaced and accurate billing will follow.
Librio also apologized for the error and the inconvenience to Hoffman.
Arizona boy digging for worms finds a handgun
A 9-year-old boy digging for worms in northern Arizona found a gun buried near his home.
Police in Prescott say the stainless-steel .38-caliber revolver was in a plastic bag along with one bullet just under the ground’s surface.
Police say it appears the gun was only covered up to hide it until someone came back to get it.
They say they don’t know who owns the gun or how it ended up buried near the home of the boy who found it last week. Police didn’t identify the boy.
Authorities say the gun’s serial number has been checked and it’s not reported missing.
Baby boy is born on subway platform in DC
A woman who gave birth to a baby boy on a Metro platform in downtown Washington, D.C., is getting $100 in subway or bus fare.
Shavonnte Taylor received a handwritten note of congratulations Thursday afternoon from Metro general manager Richard Sarles. Included in the note was a $100 SmarTrip card.
Taylor gave birth Thursday morning on the platform of the busy L’Enfant Plaza station. Metro officials say she went into labor aboard a green line train bound for Greenbelt, Md. An off-duty emergency medical technician helped her off the train and delivered the baby.
Taylor and her son, Amir, were taken to a hospital in apparent good health.
Sarles wrote to Taylor that he’s sure the delivery didn’t go as she imagined.
