International presiding prelate of C.O.G.I.C. to visit Valley
The Right Rev. Charles E. Blake, international presiding prelate of the Church of God In Christ Inc., will attend the third annual convocation planned Tuesday through Aug. 10. He represents more than 6 million members in 61 countries.
Bishop Blake is pastor of West Angeles Church of God in Christ in Los Angeles, which has 24,000 members and 80 ministries. He is chief executive officer of Save Africa’s Children of the Pan African Children’s Fund, which has helped 90,000 children affected by AIDS.
A musical event at 7 p.m. Monday at St. James Church of God in Christ, 1838 Main St., will lead off the gathering.
Day sessions from 10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday will be at Community Family Outreach Complex, 2165 Highland Ave. Topics will include youth, church effectiveness and practices, effective witnessing, six keys to triumphant living, social media, empowering women, college scholarships, prayer, deacons in training, missions, church security, social services, voting and elders.
Services will be at 7 p.m., unless otherwise noted, Tuesday through Friday at First Assembly Church, 2640 Parkman Road. Speakers will be Pastor Mira Daniels on Tuesday; Bishop Richard White, prelate and national recording artist, Wednesday; Mattie Mayes, jurisdictional supervisor, at 10 a.m., and Pastor C.J. Burels, Thursday; Bishop Blake, Friday; and Bishop David L. Herron Sr., prelate of Ohio Central East Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, who oversees more than 50 churches, and pastor of Monument of Faith C.O.G.I.C., at 10 a.m. Aug. 10, “official day” of the convocation.
