Notebook: Of the departures, only Fernandes lettered last fall, playing in all 11 games and starting one. He had 19 tackles and recovered a fumble. YSU coach Eric Wolford said Fernandes and Thomas were dismissed. “Just like in any program, you have team policies,” Wolford said. “There’s an expectation for how you’re going to conduct yourself as a Youngstown State student-athlete and if you don’t do those things, we try to rehabilitate you and help you along and at some point, if you do the same things over and over again, we’ve got to make a change.” … Cox, a 24-year-old ex-Marine sergeant/junior college transfer, had a solid spring but went home to Indiana to get married. “I think his wife gave him the ultimatum,” Wolford said. “It was a difficult decision for him and I was really disappointed but I had to wish him well.” … Not on the roster is former YSU running back Jordan Thompson, who missed last season due to academic issues but attended every practice in the spring.
