Canfield Athletic Boosters seek support

The Canfield Athletic Boosters Inc. is currently conducting two fall fundraisers with proceeds going to all sports at Canfield High School.

The first fundraiser is the Fall and Winter Sports Program, in which student athletes, cheerleaders and band members are highlighted.

Funds are raised from selling ad space in the booklet. Full page ads are $200, half page ads are $125 and quarter page ads are $75. Deadline for submission is Aug. 16. Contact Robin Daprile at 330-550-2807 to place an ad.

“The All-Sports Athletic Program gives our local businesses the opportunity to not only advertise economically to the local market but also directly support Canfield athletics while doing so. Our program is the finest in the area and it is because of the local support of the community and all the hard work the booster members put into this project, making it our biggest single fundraiser while at the same time producing a top notch program,” said Chris Thomas, Canfield Athletic Boosters president.

The second fundraiser of the fall is the Cardinal 100, a $100 ticket with only 100 tickets sold for a 50/50 prize. Early bird drawings are offered from Aug. 9 thru Sept. 6. Final drawings will be Oct. 18 at the Canfield vs. Struthers varsity football game. The grand prize is $2,500, second prize is $1,000, third prize is $500, fourth and fifth prizes are $250 and there are four $100 winners. Tickets are available from Chad Cromer at 330-519-1411.

“The Cardinal 100 is our newest fundraiser. Ticket sales are limited to only 100 and the grand prize is $2,500. In addition, eight other winners will be drawn with prizes ranging from $100 to $1,000, plus we have five early bird drawings. In total, 14 prizes will be given out from the 100 tickets sold,” Thomas said.

The purpose of the Canfield Athletic Boosters Inc. is the promotion of the moral, mental and physical advancement of high school age youths through clean sports and the encouragement of the spirit of pure sportsmanship in the youth of our community.

The organization strives to provide financial support and recognize participants in athletic programs of Canfield High School throughout the school year in all sports. The booster club supports funding the cost of uniforms, ice time, court rentals, transportation and equipment while also providing support for major athletic building additions and renovations.

Two $1,000 scholarships are awarded each year to a Canfield High School graduating senior student through The Dick Weiss Scholarship Fund.

“The Canfield Athletic Booster is the oldest parent booster organization at the high school. It began in 1972. Several years ago our treasurer Mark Luchansky and Attorney Rob Rusu prepared the necessary paper work with the Internal Revenue Service and the State of Ohio and we are officially an IRS 501(c) 3 nonprofit. Our board consists of five officers, in addition to myself, Robin Daprile, Erica Abel, Lynne Bellish and Mark Luchansky, and 20 board members. We meet regularly on the third Monday of each month. Some of our board members have been with us over 10 years, including Ray Duffet, Tom Kamenitsa and Lynne Bellish,” Thomas said.

Throughout the past 15 years, the organization has raised and donated back approximately $670,000 to help fund projects that support all of Canfield athletics.

“Our treasurer went back through the records he had available and since 1998. The Canfield Athletic Boosters has donated $669,277 to Canfield High School athletics. In 1999 we, along with in kind donations from several community corporations, constructed the Wrestling Building at the high school at a cost of $250,000. No school district funds were used in this project,” Thomas said.

Last year in conjunction with Cardinal Nest Builders, Youth and High School Wrestling, Gridiron, Diamond Backers, Boys and Girls Basketball, Soccer, Swim and Dive Boosters and Track Boosters, the Canfield Athletic Boosters donated $64,000 to the high school weight room for new weights.

This facility is not only used by the athletic organizations, but all the students in high school gym classes.

The Canfield Athletic Boosters’ third fundraiser is the Annual Super Bowl Party, which is hosted on Super Bowl Sunday in February.

“The Canfield big boosters is a volunteer organization that conducts three fundraisers during the year to support all of Canfield athletics. I encourage everyone in the community to get involved and support the boosters, whether that is by buying an ad, Cardinal 100 ticket, Super Bowl ticket or by volunteering your time and joining the boosters,” Thomas said.
